Hear
Now Live has arrived! With over 700 bands booked in three years
and over 21 different venues in 5 different states, Hear Now
Live! is ready to move forward as a company and build long
lasting relationships with clubs, bands and booking agents.
Promoters Mark Kaye, Lionel Brown and Pete Hantzis have
put together some of Boston’s brightest and most talked about
shows over the last year. With over 22,000 fans and friends in
attendance in 2010, Hear Now Live! is embracing everything the
local music scene has to offer. “When I reviewed the shows and
the amount of people that came out in 2010 I was overwhelmed by
the results.” Says President Mark Kaye. Adding Pete to an
already strong cast of promoters and booking agents was a
blessing in disguise. He opened us up to a rock and reggae trend
that I was unaware of and making a lot of noise. His work ethic
follows the ideals of what Hear Now Live! stands for which is the
passion and dedication towards the Boston music scene.”
Hear Now Live! puts together strong local and sometimes regional
and national bands onto line-ups that make sense. HNL strive for
the music to jell and for bands to dig each other and meet each
other and create a warm, pressure free environment. It’s not
about playing one show with Hear Now Live!, it’s about building a
scene and fan base that produces an effect on the music fan.
Says Pete Hantzis “Hear Now Lives staff takes a front row seat
for your performance. It’s unprecedented and should be the norm
to make sure each show lifts off without a hitch.” 2010
Highlights started with a sold out show at the Paradise Rock
Club featuring Michael Bernier & the Uprising and
Richard James and concluded with a sold out New Year’s eve
show with Love in Stockholm at Precinct. “People
are starting to get back out there and have fun and enjoy the
local environment. I saw so many new and familiar faces that I
didn’t see in 2009.” Adds Mark Kaye. The Company sees bands
elevating their performances and promotional skills. Bands like
Michael Bernier, Abbie Barrett, Doctor Doom Orchestra, Ellis
Ashbrook, Speed the Harvest, Shoney Lamar and the Self
Proclaimed Rock-Stars are striving due to the atmosphere and
environment they are placed into.
In 2010 Hear Now Live! expanded its Halloween Hangover series
which was the talk of the town. HNL’s staff put together 35
bands over 9 shows in different venues in Boston, Cambridge and
Somerville. Featuring bands Southern Lust Club, The Doctors
Fox, Gold Star Morning, People with Instruments and Staff
Johnson and selling out each venue. The scene was literally
monstrous with crowds lined up in various costumes waiting to
get in until the wee hours of the next morning. “We all love
Halloween and when we had the opportunity to get the venues we
went for it, it was an amazing feat for us to be able to
organize and put the shows together but everyone was up for the
task” says Lionel Brown.
Sound reinforcement and graphic design has become an integral
part of the Hear Now Lives ongoing promotional efforts. The
sound crew headed by HNL founding partner Greg Pappas and
supported by Boston’s finest Ian Nault, Alex Miller, Lance
Riley and Scott Wilson are second to none and work
overtime to make sure each band has the right sound for their
performances. Adds Greg Pappas “With Hear Now Live! you know you
are going to get bands that know how to perform but there is
always a challenge and that’s what I am here for to make sure
the sound is right.” Tim Evans heads our Graphic Design
department supported by Charlie Rockwell and Jesse
Haley (of South End Textiles). They have created hundreds of
posters for events supporting what each show and line-up stands
for. “I tend to come up with something that catches the naked
eye. It’s about the process and environment and when you can put
the two together it’s a win, win.” Says Tim Evans. HNL is fueled
by a huge web presence that starts with HearNowLive.com, created
and managed by founding member Tom Bruton (of Studio B).
Tom relentlessly finds ways to make the site a fan and
band-friendly environment where everyone can watch the
talent evolve and the original music scene unfold.
2011 looks even more promising as fans continue to turn out in
record numbers to Hear Now Live! shows. With the support of up
and coming promoter Jamal George and the continued
support of Laura Hinds and Chris Jacques, HNL is
looking to expand into new territories of the music business
including managing, an all out booking agency and creating new
ways to improve local shows and support the local music scene.
Mr. Kaye “We look forward to what the future has to bring and
the opportunity to do it in our own backyard is invaluable.”
