2012: New Year, New Challenges….
As another
successful year for Hear Now Live comes to an end, the challenge
to bring forth quality shows and concerts in Boston and beyond
continues. In 2011 Hear Now Live had the biggest year yet with
over 250 shows booked in Boston, Cambridge, Allston, Brighton,
Somerville, New York City, Burlington, VT, Portland, ME and
Providence, Rhode Island. Hear Now Live employed 5 interns and 8
promoters all with one goal in mind: To bring the Boston music
scene together and give those without an opportunity a chance to
prove that they belong with the finest musicians on the scene
and in the clubs. It certainly has been a challenge and a
rollercoaster ride but I have to tell you I don’t want to get
off! The company continues to keep our ears to the street and
develop relationships with club managers, club owners and bands
alike. Venturing out of Boston on a full scale proved to be
successful as the company mixed acts from other states with
local acts from the Boston area which made for many successful
shows in said states. I travelled all over the place in 2011 and
I have to tell you every scene is different yet the underlying
theme is the same which is to pack a club and have some fun.
Music and especially live shows are alive and well and moving
forward and evolving and becoming more band-friendly. We hope to
be a strong part of the future growth in New England and beyond.
We won’t stop until the music does, and we don’t foresee that
happening anytime soon.
Senior Vice President and Talent buyer Lionel Brown has
developed a system to allow Hear Now Live to do an exorbitant
amount of shows while being able to keep everyone happy and the
clubs and bands hungry for more. Lionel says “You have to love
what you do because this is not for the faint at heart. You have
to communicate and stay on top of each step until show time and
then when the show begins you can breathe and take it all in.”
Hear Now Live creates a working environment and relieves one of
the major stresses from a band which is getting a show and
organizing it for them. This allows the band to concentrate on
putting on the best show they can and spreading the word to
their fans and friends. We are grateful for what we have. We do
a lot for the music community and we do so many shows that we no
longer have any competition in our market. We receive hundreds
of emails a week and we reply to all of them. The Hear Now Live
staff is second to none containing a revolving door of interns
and promoters but spearheaded by myself and Lionel Brown who has
a combined 38 years of experience in the music business. The
website and updates are made by silent partner Tom Bruton while
the sound is engineered when needed by head sound man Greg
Pappas with help from his son John Pappas, Alex Miller & Lance
Riley. The Graphics design department is headed by Tim Evans
with help from Jesse Haley (of Southend Textiles), Dave Clark &
Alex Miller.
In 2012 Hear Now Live will be booking several more clubs in the
area including a new Theater opening in the Spring, and will
continue to venture into band management. “We feel like we have
a lot to offer bands and we feel like we can help them in more
ways than just getting shows.” Says Lionel Brown. HNL is looking
forward to booking quality shows in the Boston area and beyond
that make a difference with bands who care about what they do
and know what they want. The bands you see on the polls and the
awards shows, in the blogs … that isn’t the Boston music scene.
You go to those shows and the clubs are empty. The bands we want
to work with are the ones that help us pack the clubs, make each
show a success and contribute to the scene. Those are the best
bands in town because when the show is packed you know they are
top quality and are some of the best musicians you will ever see
anywhere.
So there you have
it… another year down and another challenge awaits in 2012 and
Hear Now Live is up to the challenge - ready to bring the people
and bands together to make a difference.
